You're listening to my Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1141. Today's Devo is called what Gratitude Requires. Hey there. We're the Alesses, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Good morning everybody and happy Monday. Welcome to another week of My Morning Devotional. This is the month of gratitude. So I know that we've been probably reading a lot of verses that have to do with being thankful, but I promise you that that is a great place to be at when you're just thankful every single day. It really changes the course of your day and I hope that the last few weeks have done that for you. I know that Gabby said last week that if you're a planner, she wanted to provide the verses for you. So I think I want to do the same thing.
00:01:02.331 --> 00:01:24.367
I want to give you guys the verses that we'll be reading for the week for any planners. But also the way that I was thinking about it was maybe you're that person that cannot wait till the end of the movie because it's just way too stressful. And so you go on your phone and you look up the ending that is me. I don't spoil it for anybody, but I just need to know for my peace of mind.
00:01:24.510 --> 00:01:42.674
So if that's you, maybe this will also help you in just knowing what verses we're going to be reading for the entire week. And then if you would like, maybe you want to read the verses before you hear the episode or you just want to join day of. But either way, I want to provide these for you.
00:01:43.055 --> 00:01:46.364
So for today we're going to read Psalm 9.
00:01:46.478 --> 00:01:56.715
On Tuesday we're going to read Psalm 28. On Wednesday we'll do Psalm 138. On Thursday, Psalm 145.
00:01:56.831 --> 00:02:00.224
And Friday we'll do Romans 6.
00:02:00.724 --> 00:02:44.615
So how about we just jump in on today's verse? So we talked about today is Psalm 9, but I want to highlight the verses 1 and 2 and it says I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart. I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and exalt in you. I will sing praise to your name, O most High. Funny enough, my mother in law, Mary Alessi, who you guys have heard here in the podcast. She wrote a song called With My Whole Heart and we got actually to re record it a few months ago. And when I read this verse it reminded me of that song because it says that we have to give thanks to the the Lord with our whole hearts.
00:02:44.955 --> 00:05:00.404
And that convicted me because sometimes I might just wake up and say I just have to be thankful for this and I just completely ignore it. Ignore it. Or I just say yes, I'll be thankful for it. But being thankful is a full on act. You have to be fully present when you're thankful and saying even if I don't feel it, I'm still going to do it with my whole heart. And so I'm challenging myself today to be very present and be thankful with my whole heart. This is not something I just want to encourage you to do. This is something I'm challenging myself to do in this season. And I'm asking God to reveal to me even right now, what does that mean to be thankful with my whole heart. But here it also says that I will recount all your wonderful deeds. So I think that being part of being present and being thankful with our whole hearts is remembering all the great things that God has done for our lives. Sometimes we're so focused on the right now that we do tend to forget because our focus right now on the wonderful things that God has done. And so today I'm going to find one thing that I'm very thankful for that God has done in the past. And I will remember that and I will thank him for it. But that will just give me the motivation to continue to be present today with my whole heart as I give thanks to the Lord. So let's pray today. Father God, we just want to thank you as the season of gratitude. We just want to thank you for all the wonderful things that you have done. And I promise you to be intentional today in remembering your wonderful deeds. But also Father, and being thankful right now, even if I don't feel it, even if I don't see the great things that you're doing, I know that you are doing wonderful things in our lives. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in. Today we pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
