00:00:07.839 --> 00:03:41.831
Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Good morning everybody and happy Friday. We've made it to Friday. The weekend is coming and it's gonna be an amazing weekend. After what we've discussed this week, I bet you probably feel like you can go and, like, fight whoever, like you can do anything and you are able to enjoy this weekend. And, oh, I forgot to say my name. My name is Rachelle Alessi, and I had the privilege of being with you this week. Thank you for writing this story with me and being with me this week. Like I mentioned, I read the story last week and it just, I felt like it hit me in a complete new way. And me, I usually go under five or I'm like right at five minutes. I've gone over this entire week. That's how much I love this story. And so thank you for letting me go over every single episode. And I hope that this week has blessed you. But we get to go out with a really big verse and a great, great side of the story because we know how the story ends and is so, so encouraging. But we talked about how David went, faced the giant and how confident David was. And this leads us to 1st Samuel, chapter 17, verse 50, and David, and it says, so David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and he struck the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in David's hand. Then David ran and stood over the Philistine. And I love how this just, this is such a beautiful verse because it's telling you what David did. And he didn't even have a sword in his hand. He had a sling and a stone, and that's how he killed that giant. But honestly, we asked ourselves, like, I, I remember when I read the story, I started to think about how big was the stone, because if this guy was a giant, you know, clearly the stone had to be pretty big. Or maybe the speed of the stone had to be like super fast because it had to hit him. And he, like, the Bible says that the minute that stone hit Goliath, like He fell down to the ground. And I'm trying to do all the that physical math to make this make sense. And the truth is that you can't do that, because what happened that day was a miracle. God delivered the Israelites and he used David because David was confident in the Lord. And David knew that he could have just shown up in there and say the name of the Lord and that giant would fall down, because that's how powerful the Lord is. And it only took a stone to kill that giant. But the truth is, that day, the Lord did it. It wasn't just the stone that did it. So I encourage you not to be like me and get cut up. And how would have that had happened? The truth is, is that the Lord did it and David prevailed and he had no sword. But I actually want to get to this point of the story, which was the point that I been waiting for. It's like, I haven't said anything about this because I want it to feel like a movie. And it's like, just when you think it's over, David did it. Wow. It's done. But after that, there's actually six more verses.
00:03:41.895 --> 00:04:17.697
So the story is not over. And it's not just, David killed Goliath and the battle's done. Remember, it was not just a fight against Goliath. It was a group of people. It was the Philistines. And from day one, we learned that Goliath was just their biggest giant, but there was many more, which meant David took the biggest one, but there was still more to do. And the same army who was afraid on day one, the same army that almost fought David and was like, you're a young kid, you don't know what you're talking about.
00:04:17.754 --> 00:04:43.754
We've been here for 40 days. This army had been sitting there for 40 days listening to the lies of Goliath for 40 days, guys, they had heard all these things. So imagine how much fear had kept him just stuck not doing anything for 40 days. They didn't know what to do. They're just standing there waiting for a command. But even then, they're like, they're afraid.
00:04:43.882 --> 00:06:11.661
And here comes David. He takes down the giant and that army to go down to. I have my Bible, so I'm gonna find it. It says, when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, remember they used to call Goliath their champion, they fled. So all they had to do is take out their biggest one, and all these giants, they fled. And then it says, and then the men of Israel and Judah rose with a shout and pursued the Philistine as far as Gath and the gates of Ekron. So the wounded Philistines fell on the way from all these cities. That I cannot say properly. But the point of this, it says the people of Israel came back from chasing the Philistines and they plundered their camp. And David took the head of the Philistine and brought it into Jerusalem. But he put his armor in his tent. This shows us. It literally says that the army of God, they saw David do that, and then these giants start running. And then all these men rose up with a new confidence. But they had to see somebody model that first. All these men were the men that were sitting there for 40 days listening to something, but they only had to see one young guy do it. They only needed one good example of what it. What it meant to trust the Lord.
00:06:11.805 --> 00:06:42.009
And all these men rose up and it says that they ran and they chased these giants, and they start to name all. As far as all these cities. I. I told my husband that I would love to get a map and find what all these cities were, because if the Bible goes out of their way to say the names of these cities is probably because these, the army of God, probably these guys just ran for miles and miles and miles to chase off these big giants. But they were not afraid anymore.
00:06:42.089 --> 00:07:53.230
And all they needed was David to show them to be the example of what it meant to be humble and to have the confidence in the Lord. And then they rose up and they won, and the Lord delivered them. And so I just encourage you today to say, you can be the David in your family, you can be the David in your workspace, you can be the David in your community. You can be the example of what it means to have confidence in the Lord and trust the Lord, even if the people around you have been sitting for days and all they do is rehearse and talk about fear and talk about all the things that are wrong. You can be the person who stands up and says, nope, I know the Lord and the Lord will be with me. And you watch as your family, as your friends, as your community, as your work. And all these people look at you and say, if this person can do it, I can too. And you'll watch as you kill giants, as the people around you start to do the same thing. But all at the end of the day, points to God and glorifies God. You just watch. Let's pray.
00:07:53.389 --> 00:08:00.293
Father. God, thank you for giving us such a great example in the Bible of just faith and what it takes to trust in you.
00:08:00.461 --> 00:08:29.879
But what shows us is that we can have true trust and confidence in your name and your ability to deliver us. And so I pray that you make every listener today a David in whatever area of their life that they see that they can fight because you will deliver them and because of that you will make them the example around them not to be the excuse but to be the example that in the midst of fear they're going to stand up and fight for the right thing and fight for you.
00:08:30.000 --> 00:08:33.735
In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it.
