Whose Name Do You Use?

Whose Name Do You Use?

Whose name do you call upon in times of challenge? In today's episode, host Richelle Alessi dives deep into the story of David and Goliath from First Samuel, chapter 17. She vividly recounts the pivotal moment when David confidently faces the giant Goliath, not with weapons but with an unwavering faith in the name of the Lord. Richelle reflects on the profound lesson that true strength and confidence come from knowing whom you serve. She shares her own journey of processing this scripture in real time, encouraging listeners to trust in God's deliverance and to boldly proclaim His name in their lives.

Join us in this powerful devotional as we come together in prayer, seeking courage and strength to face our own giants, knowing that we walk alongside the God who has already won every battle.

00:00:29.786 --> 00:03:04.701
Good morning, everybody and happy Thursday. My name is Rachelle Alessi, and I've been with you this week, and I am so excited that I still get two more days with you. Until next time, but thank you for writing this journey along with me. Like I mentioned in the the first episode of this week, what we're discussing this week is something that I'm processing in, like, true time. I just, like, read this story and went back to the story of First Samuel, chapter 17, which is the story of David last week. And it's been so alive in me, I couldn't, I couldn't shake it off. And that's what. The reason why I'm like, I need to bring this to the podcast booth. And so I'm truly bringing this to you as, as I'm processing in real time. And so I hope that this story is blessing you as much as the stories bless me, and is continuing to bless me. As I'm redoing these episodes. I just feel like I'm reliving and rereading this all over again. And I feel the same fire as when I read it a week ago. And, and so I hope that you guys are feeling that as well. And we've journeyed through the story and today we're actually where we left off yesterday is that Saul tells David, go, and the Lord is going to be with you. So now David is on his way to fight this big giant. And we've seen till now all the obstacles and things that David's had to fight to get to the point where the king is like, hey, go. Go and fight this giant. We don't have any other options. We've tried it all. We don't know what to do. So, I mean, just go, go ahead. And we pick up on First Samuel, chapter 17, verse 45. And in verse 45, I actually have my Bible in front of me. So let me, let me find it. It says, then David said to the Philistine, you come to me with the sword and with the spear, and with the javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel. And at this point, David had arrived. And I want you to know that the giant Goliath had been saying all these things to David. And I encourage you to go read this. I'm not. I don't actually have the time to read all these things to you because I have five minutes. And this week I've gone over by like two minutes at each episode. That's how much I love the story. So I don't have the time to read it for you. So I encourage you to go back. But by the time the David gets to almost the front of this giant, he had been hearing this giant say all these things about David and in this case, our God, Jesus Christ, right? He had been saying all these things about our God. And David is just focused.

00:03:04.846 --> 00:03:12.237
Just think of this young man, focused. He's picking up his five rocks, he's walking over. He had already been through all these things.

00:03:12.373 --> 00:03:27.009
And when he comes to face this giant, his words are, you come to me with the sword and with the spear and the javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have denied.

00:03:27.590 --> 00:03:31.370
And David knew whose name he was fighting for.

00:03:31.909 --> 00:03:53.872
He even knew whose name he was going to use. He knew that it was not going to be his own. He didn't show up there saying, you come to me with all these things, but me, David, he doesn't even say his name. If you guys think about it, he doesn't get there and say, hey, Goliath, my name is David, and I want you to know that I've killed the lion, I've killed the bear. I've done this.

00:03:53.975 --> 00:04:15.889
He doesn't say any of that, guys. He actually gets to this giant and he says, you, giant, come to me with all these things. But the one thing I come to you with is the name of the Lord, the God of Israel, the God of the armies of Israel. He was so confident in the Lord. I have never.

00:04:16.009 --> 00:05:18.629
Honestly, it's like. It's so convicting to me. Because sometimes we place our confidence in so many different things that we forget that our pride as people, what drives us, what gives us the confidence, the motivation, is that we have God. And as long as we are doing things righteously, God is with us and he promises to deliver us. And that is the only reason why David was in front of thousands of men. The army of Israel, the army of God. I Don't even know how armies work. But in my head, I'm like, okay, all these men ready to fight. None of them could move yet. David knew that he could do it because of who he was fighting for. He knew that he was on the winning side before he even fought, because he was on the side of the Lord. He knew who he belonged to. He belonged to God. And he knew who he served. He served God. And because of that, he was not faced by how big Goliath was.

00:05:18.750 --> 00:06:11.173
And if you do some actually, like, theology study, which I am not really qualified to talk about, but my husband is great at it, and he's shown me a little bit. The truth is that Goliath was one of the big giants. And if you read in this story, they used to call Goliath their champion, which means it was probably like, think of, like, family of giants. I guess there was many of them, but their biggest one was Goliath, and they called him the champion. And the biggest one they sent to the battlefield. And even to the biggest one, David was like, you're the biggest. I don't care. I come to you in the name of the Lord, and He is enough. And then in 47, actually, if you go down a little bit, it says, the Lord saves. Not with the sword and a spear, for the battle is the Lord's, and He will give you unto our hand.

00:06:11.341 --> 00:06:29.935
And David's confidence was that just like you delivered me from the bear and from the lion, God will deliver me from you, and we will win today. And so I just encourage you guys, everything you do in the name of the Lord, you know who you serve, you know your God. And everything we do is for the Lord.

00:06:30.048 --> 00:06:33.632
Not our will, but God's will, and he delivers us. So let's pray.

00:06:33.776 --> 00:06:37.312
Father, God, thank you for this beautiful Thursday.

00:06:37.495 --> 00:07:30.250
Thank youk for your word. Thank youk for always being with us. And Lord, we just say at this moment, right now that our lives and everything, everything we do is for you. And then now we know what side we're on. We're on your side, Lord. You are with us. We serve the God of the impossible. We serve the God who's already won every single battle. And so our posture today and from now on, no matter how hard or how difficult life might be, is we have already won because the Lord has delivered us. And so we'll have the confidence to do the right thing, to follow you, to lead our families into your word, because we know our Lord Jesus Christ, who we serve. He's already won. And that is the name that we serve, that is the name that we use, and that is the name that will be exalted in our lives. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

00:07:30.589 --> 00:07:51.339
