You're listening to my morning devotional podcast, episode 1049. Today's Sivo is called yes Equals yes. Hey, there. We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.

00:00:21.333 --> 00:01:05.810
That's why we partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning Devotional podcast. Good morning, everybody. Happy Thursday, and welcome to another episode. This week has been already such a blessing, and I know today's he was gonna bless you as well. So if you didn't know, today I'm hosting is me, Rochelle Alessi, and we have Lauren Alessi, my sister in law, leading us into our devotional. So, Lauren, will you take it away? Yes, of course. Hello, everybody. Good to just be doing this with you again, Michelle. It's fun. Yes. Okay, so today we're going to read from James 512. And to be completely honest, when I was searching up, like, verses about mercy, this one popped up.

00:01:05.890 --> 00:01:27.599
It's alluding a little bit away from mercy, but I was like, I really love this verse, and I'm going to read it anyway. But it's still in the theme, the overall theme. But James 512, it says, but above all, my brothers, do not swear either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath. But let your yes be yes and your no be no so that you may not fall under condemnation.

00:01:28.180 --> 00:01:43.316
So when I was reading this, I was like, I'm a little confused, so I just sort of looked it up again. And Jesus also says the same thing, and it's Jesus's words this time. He says it in Matthew, and he says, just don't swear under heaven or earth.

00:01:43.347 --> 00:01:46.275
Don't swear at all, but let your yes be yes and your no be no.

00:01:46.308 --> 00:02:00.885
And he's actually referring to don't. It's the same concept when Jesus is talking about, you don't know about tomorrow, so don't swear on anything. Don't promise that you know everything, because you. You don't know everything.

00:02:01.037 --> 00:02:25.931
So just let your yes be yes and your no be no. And I really love this concept, because it's just this sort of take one day at a time, take one action at a time, and it's a reminder that we don't know everything. We don't have this power to swear, to swear unto God, to swear unto the heavens, to swear unto the earth. We don't have that power as humans.

00:02:26.075 --> 00:02:51.397
We serve a very powerful God, but we don't have that power to swear unto anything. But I just really, really love this concept of be a person whose yes is their yes and their no is their no. Yeah. And what that looks like is just taking it one day at a time. And you can simply say, you know, I don't know what today is going to look like, but yes, God, I can trust you for today. Yeah.

00:02:51.574 --> 00:03:25.864
I don't know what my future career is going to look like, but the door has opened for this job. Yes, I'm going to take it. I don't know what my future spouse is going to look like, and I'm a little worried about it. But this person asked me out on a date, and my friends are, you know, telling me to do it. So, yes, I'm going to take it. Let your yes be yes. But on the other hand, let your no be no. If you said no to something, don't waver. Don't go back and forth. And if you and your friends and your church community are telling you and feel peace about that no, don't waver back and forth. Let your no be your no. And I just think this is such a good concept.

00:03:25.912 --> 00:03:40.514
Yeah. Because sometimes we're like, yes. We go back and forth and we're like, oh, maybe not. And then we're like, no, not for me. Oh, but maybe that's your yes. Be your yes. Let you know, be a no. Take one day at a time, and you don't know tomorrow. But that's a humbling thought.

00:03:40.562 --> 00:03:51.873
That's a good thing. So I just thought this was a kind of interesting verse that I'd like to bring up. And the peace that comes with you making your decision that your yes is your yes and you know is your no.

00:03:52.002 --> 00:04:31.276
Because once you've said yes, you don't have to go back and forth about your decision. You said yes. Yeah, and I have peace. I can move on. And when you've said no to something, I have peace about it. Now. I can go through with it with my no. And you don't live this life with these unmade decisions. Right? Yeah. But you're letting your yes be your yes and your no be your no. I love that. Lauren, can you pray for us today? Yes, for sure. Dear Lord, thank you so much for just an awesome day, Lord. Another day that we get to experience and live out. God. Lord, help us to be faithful with the little God, help us to be faithful in this season right now. God. And what does that look like? Letting our yes be our yes and our no be our no. God.

00:04:31.427 --> 00:04:56.132
Lord, help us not to swear on anything. Help us not to be so just overly confident in ourselves, God, because the truth is like your word says, we don't know what tomorrow holds, God. And it's not on us to know everything, God. But, Lord, we just pray right now that you help us just be faithful with the little and to have faith in you and to be bold enough to let our yes be yes and our no be no. And let us be people of character and integrity. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

00:04:56.235 --> 00:05:18.259
Amen. So there you have it, your five minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
